    Starting up

    Hey all,

I am a 36 year old guy who has been ravaged by time and living in excess. Recently I had a conversation with my life regarding my health and ability to be around for my kids.

So... I decided to follow up on a passion of mine jui jitsui and I signed up for classes through an academy instructed by Gracie students. They also have a Muay Thai instructor that is recognized as one of the best in Thialand.

My objective is to lose weight and really try and put myself in good enough condition to someday 9soon considering my age) participate in a local Jui jitsui or NHB competition.

So two questions for readers (1) is doing jui jitsui in and of itself enough to "get in shape" I'm looking to knock off around 40 pounds (2) are there other routines and things I can do away from the gym to really help support my growth in the sport.

I look forward to hearing from folks and thanks ofr helping out an old man.

    hello,
I think the way should be having a healthy diet when you are working out, in this case practicing the Martial Arts. Instead of focusing on losing weight, think replacing fat tissue with muscle mass and even though you get more weight it's far much better for your body and it will allow you to improve on your training.
