    triangle choke

What do you guys think the best way to get out of a triangle choke? I'd like to hear some opinions.

    triangle

As soon as you feel the triangle (guys leg on your shoulder) you need to sit back and posture. Be sure to keep your arm that is caught on the side of the guys body and work from there. You can stack him work your head out etc.

    Thanks, for the tips.

last week we were rolling and I kind of set the guy up an gave him my arm. He went for the triangle and I was able to grab his foot and stack him up and slip out.

Triangles are tough if you get caught not paying attention to the leg on your shoulder and the pull of your arm. As soon as you feel your arm get pulled, twist your body into the pull, ie... right arm you would rotate right, left arm left. That helps so he cannot get his leg at the correct shoulder. Stand up and pull out. This works quite well for me but I am a quick, small framed guy.

If you've seen the Matt Hughes vs Carlos Newton fight, I think that is the best way, but obviously not to the extent Matt took it. If you can lift your oponent up just lift him like a foot off the ground, just bring him down hard, and bring your weight into him. He will most likely either loosen the grip, or lose it.

Defintley Posture up and get my arm free........when he trys to drop into a normal guard I would simply bash his face with everything I got when I see the opening..........I think this is a good way but if its Val Tudo Rules then I am going to stand and kick the **** out of him lol............

last week i was caught in a triangle and he had my left arm in, so with that hand i reached under his right hip, pulled down on his left leg with my right hand and flipped him over. he was smaller than me, i dont know if that matters much.

    hello,

we will assume the secure your right arm (as most are right handed). your left arm is near your body behind the opponents hips.

before your opponent attempts to grab your head and pull downward on it, drive your body foreward (a de facto form of stacking). your aim is to plant your right hand and left hand on the mat to the left (your left) of your opponents head.

now, keep driving foreward in that direction (sort of crawling your way past). keep pressure on your opponent with your weight while you do this. keep your back straight and your head off the floor and you should be able to free yourself (most of the time).

    good luck to you.

    thanks.

    hello,

incidentally, the above technique is not gi dependent. it works the same in jiujitsu and submission.

    thanks
