Hey to everyone on the forum. Looking to help whoever needs advice regarding nutrition and conditioning. I have done extensive training in Tae Kwon Do and am currently on a major weightlifting and conditioning program that has taken my strength to another level. Glad to be a part of the forum and looking forward to getting some great information.

Hey man, I'm 20 years old and really wanting to get into mma, first of all in your opinion is 20 too late to start something like this without any martial arts training at a younger age? and if not I am all ears on training tips/nutrition/ anything you would be willing to help me in. thanks Bullett

    Conditioning/Nutrition

Most of my work, both nutrition and workouts are all based upon traditional methods and some personal touches i have added along the way.

Nutritiionally there is no better alternative to building muscle than making sure to eat a high protein diet with plenty of solid vegetable choices. Trying to stay close to the food pyramid is an option but i mainly stick with eating chicken and taking in at least 250 grams of protein a day (im 240 lbs so it might be less for others) but in order to build muscle in the weightroom your body needs a constant supply of protein to rebuild muscle as well as promote healthy muscle glycogen levels (muscle energy). Stay away from soda and drink water at every meal. Mainly do what you feel is best and it doesnt help to have a CASEIN protein shake before you go to bed on workout days to help boost your nighttime level of amino acids and protein. A good mix of supplements and a multivitamin will help fill deficiencies in your diet. Personally i just got on the BSN mass stack and have seen great results in just a little less than a week. I used muscletech products as well and put on a solid 20 lbs of muscle in the fall of 2006, which brings me to my next point....

Your training and conditioning must be intense. From the minute that you walk in the gym door you have to have adrenaline pumping through your veins to maximize your results and strength gains. Personally i try to listen to upbeat music but mostly what i listen to is just straight up metal/rock to make sure that i keep the intensity at the highest level. My workout is typical and you can find it in any magazine you just need to up the intensity about 500000 notches. During workout periods make sure to include cardio and yes...you can use the heavy bag and either grappling or takedown drills as that. Make sure to keep changing your cardio routine to prevent it getting overly boring. Cardio isnt fun but it must be done to make you a great fighter. In the end its not the strongest fighter that will win...it is the one who wants it the most. A quote from the trainer of Gerard Butler (Kind Leonidas in 300) said that you must treat every workout as if your life depended on it. A workout should make you queezy just thinking about it.

Keep your intensity high and maintain a healthy, high protein diet and the muscle and strength will come. Its been one week since i started my summer program and i am already seeing great results. Keep in touch.
