Lifting and bag work on the same day?

The way my schedule is right now, I do upper body weights in the morning and heavy bag work the same day in the evening. I feel pretty good by evening, but I'm wondering if this is somehow bad for my form or strength recovery. Anybody have an opinion?

With that type of workout, there is nothing wrong with that, but you should only lift with a certain bodypart every other two days.... Never workout two days in a row with the same muscle group because it needs time to recover. Most people make the mistake of training to much, thinking harder training makes bigger results but thats not true. Continue your bag training but do legs and back one day, arms and chest next day, and then take a day off from all weight training and work on grappling and cardio, then do it all over again. That's just an example, you can mix it up yourself but always give time for your muscles to recover. Remember, and this is such an old saying but its still true, muscle grows while your asleep/recovering not in the weight room...

    bag/weight work outs

    Depends on several factors, including:

    1) How old you are. Older athletes (over say 35) generally need more recovery time, as do younger ones (say less than 19).

    2) How intense and long your workouts are.

    3) How much rest you get in between.

I think the ideal would be to do the bag work, and then do the weights right afterwards. Then recover the next day by doing cardio, technique, etc.

"There is no such thing as overtraining, just under recovering." I used to do bag work after doing abs, lats, and traps. I recently started throwing elbows and punches to a heavy bag on the ground while I was in full mount. This really kills your abs and back, so I'm probably going to switch my routine a little.

hmmm no thing as overtraining? What are you talking about. Listen, if you think your doing good by combining things to make up time, you're taking the chance of "overtraining," receiving an unneeded injury, and plus, when you combine different workouts, you're not getting as much results as you would if you split your muscles groups up more. Say I do triceps hard until failure, then work chest, I'm not going to be able to work my chest muscles as good as normal because my triceps are exhausted. It takes some tricep work to help with chest workouts. So I split my workouts like biceps / legs Monday followed by cardio, triceps / back bag work tuesday chest / abs wednesday bag work / cardio thursday and abs / biceps / legs cardio friday, saturday and sunday morning cardio and sparring....

I know there is overtraining. Especially if you're a natural fighter that does cardio and sparring. I just loved that saying though. It inspires me to sleep and drink protein shakes all day (after I train). The recovery process is just as important as the training. Anyone that disagrees should get drunk, party all night, and not eat anything and see how their training goes.
