hey i want to box, and i want to know how much should i run a week? I live right next to a track, so you can give exact distance or just use time, doesnt matter.
When I was boxing the rule of thumb was to run (or other cardio) 3 times a week for 10mins per round you wanted to fight.
As an example, if you plan on doing a 4 round exhibition match then plan on running 40mins. Mix it up between sprints/jogs and resistance running.
Obviously there is a point where this rule doesn't apply--e.g. 15 rounds would equal 2 and a half hours of cardio--but when you get to the point that you are able to handle an 8 round bout you can then decide how much more you need in the tank and assess from there.
Anyway, that's how we did it in the old days (I'm about 10 years removed from boxing)
